"You don't get it until you get it."
Cassidy Colbert gets it. My name is Hannah and I have had Lyme Disease for 3 years. Sure, there has been plenty of pain, but I have discovered so much joy. I can easily say that Cass is one of my best friends. Along with our little Lymie crew, the "Lyme Chickens", we have watched each other face mountains, and we have pulled each other out of some of the lowest valleys.
I met Cassidy through Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Little did I know that a simple friend/follow request would lead to such a beautiful sisterhood. After beginning our group chat with Jessica, Abigail, and Kerry (the "Lyme Chickens"), I soon realized how special Cassidy truly is. For those of you who are lucky enough to know her, you know how much of a treasure she is. She can be silly, goofy, and hilarious of course, but she is also a shoulder to cry on and a wonderful listener. I admire so much about Cassidy, but one thing that truly stands out is her dedication to raising awareness for Lyme Disease. From the awareness video in the works with Kerry, to creating one of the most active online teenage Lyme Disease support groups, it is obvious that she has so many big things to come. She is a natural born leader and I cannot wait to see what life has in store for her.
Cassidy frequently posts "Warrior Wednesday" pictures on Instagram, just another example of her selflessness. She is quick to give words of inspiration and encourage all of us Lymies on tough days. But Cassidy is a warrior every single day in more ways than one. Lyme is not only a physical battle, it is an emotional one too. She has had to give up a lot, but she remains joyful. Cassidy, I truly admire you for that.
I will be FINALLY meeting Cassidy and giving her a great big hug on in June, and we are counting down the days. But until then, fight on my little warrior. I love you and thank you so much, Cassidy!
