A few months ago when I was first diagnosed, my mom joined some Lyme groups on Facebook. Through the groups, she has received a lot of helpful information. In one group, another mother was looking for some information for her teen daughter with Lyme, Jenna.
Since then, Jenna and I have talked back and forth about school or pain or just life in general, and it's been really nice. As much as family and friends try, they just don't fully understand what I'm going through. Friends will ask me how I'm doing and they say they feel sorry for me but then they go on with their lives. But for teens like Jenna and I, it's not that simple.
This weekend, we finally met up and spent 2 hours talking about our lives now. We talked about how hard school is and how hard it is not being able to do what we love, and it was nice to have someone who understands it . Many support groups in the area are mostly for adults, and having this disease in an adult life and having it in an adolescent life are very different.
Having this disease is hard, and the hardest part i that it takes away from being a kid. It's hard having to watch your friends out doing the stuff you want to be doing and not being able to tell anyone how you feel. Having someone like Jenna has been really helpful and we plan on meeting up some more and even doing some things together.
