It's Lyme Disease Awareness Month!

*Originally published 5/1/13*

May is Lyme Disease Awareness month! And as if on cue I had a herx reaction today! I didn't go to school at all and I spent my day laying around in pain. I can't sleep anymore at all. We even got ZQuil to just try and get me to sleep through the night. It didn't work.

We also have tried acupuncture twice. Once on Monday and then again today. Everyone says it helps and I hope it does. I tell people I had it done and they are in shock! They say "doesn't it hurt!?" The truth is, I have been in constant pain for the last year and no other kind of pain really affects me.

On May 4th it will officially be a year since I've had this mess. My first doctors appointment was on may 4th last year. And ever since then my life has been very different. After many doctors appointments, medicines, breakdowns and and misdiagnoses, I was finally diagnosed with Lyme. Many people don't really think Lyme is a big deal, but it is, and the scary thing is, it can happen to anyone. You could have it right now, and not even know. There is no cure. The laws surrounding it are ridiculous and people need help.

Lyme has changed my life. I don't think I would want it any other way though. I have met so many incredible people through this journey. We are all one big "Lymie" family. Struggling through this has made me a stronger person. Also it has made me realize how much people really do suffer from diseases. On May 25th there is a rally in Washington DC for Lyme disease awareness. Please come out and rally with us and help us get a cure and our voices heard!
